So Wednesday (3/24) we had some very interesting weather and it is my duty as a student to analyze that weather. Well, actually it isn't, but here goes nothing:
According to my best guess, on Tuesday night the barometric pressure began to drop as a cold-front moved towards Lubbock. This change in pressure is responsible for sudden winds we experienced that evening (as the low pressure air came in). This change continued to occur until Wednesday morning (once again, this is my best guess). Then (now watch this) around noon on Wednesday the barometric once again shifted, this time rising at a faster rate. Once again, this change in pressure accounted for the violent (and mild to moderately annoying) winds we experienced during our class period that afternoon. By Thursday morning, the system had pretty much run it's course and it made for a very nice day. We experienced warmer temperatures, milder winds, and nice clusters of little cumulus clouds. Now I'm thinking of switching majors (to meteorology).

03.10.10 Trip to Lubbock Lake Landmark

Last Wednesday the class took a trip out to Lubbock Lake Landmark. One may think that there isn't much to be learned about the "plains eco-system" but it was actually a very interesting experience. The most fascinating aspect of the trip was the fact that I could more easily visualize how the land has changed over the years.
I also gained an appreciation for the work that went into the renovation out at LLL. Countless hours have been spent removing mesquites, cochia, thistle, etc. The walk-way that was installed is a daunting sight once you learn what went into its construction. All in all, it was a very enlightening experience and I would definitely encourage potential visitors to check it out.

Introduction!

Hi everybody,
My name is Nic Schwartz and welcome to my blog. As a part of my Natural Histories and Humanities course I was required to start a blog about my experiences in class. I will be posting to this blog fairly regularly concerning various topics, ideas, and feelings regarding my class as well as other experiences regarding our natural world. Thanks for visiting and I look forward to your input in the future!
